Show Me You Care KC is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting underserved communities in Kansas City through direct service, advocacy, and empowerment. Born from lived experience and the urgent needs of our neighborhoods, our work is centered around a Culture of Care—a belief that dignity, healing, and opportunity are human rights, not privileges.
Founded in love and resilience, our programs support youth, families, and individuals who are too often overlooked: our unhoused neighbors, Black LGBTQ+ youth, students without access to basic necessities, and communities disproportionately affected by poverty, violence, and systemic injustice.
Through annual initiatives like the All-Star Charity Basketball Game, Voices of Care, Seasons of Care, Once Upon A Prom, and Show Me You Matter, we provide immediate resources like food, housing advocacy, school supplies, prom attire, suicide prevention programming, and healing-centered events. Each program is intentionally designed to meet our community where they are—with empathy, creativity, and tangible support
Our Mission
Show Me You Care KC exists to uplift and support our most vulnerable neighbors through compassion, dignity, and community providing essentials, advocacy, healing, and creative empowerment to those too often left behind.
From the streets to the schoolyard, from shelters to prom nights, we are showing up with love, advocacy, and tangible support for Kansas City’s most underserved residents.
Founded on compassion and lived experience, our grassroots programs center dignity, empowerment, and visibility for Black communities, unhoused individuals, LGBTQ+ youth, and families in crisis.
We envision a Kansas City, a Missouri, an America where everyone has access to resources, hope, and opportunity where no one is invisible, and community care is a bridge to justice, healing, and wholeness for all.
Our Programs

Voices of Care
We meet people where they are, on the streets, in shelters, or wherever they call home delivering hot meals, hygiene & survival kits, emergency supplies, and housing advocacy for individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness.

Once Upon a Prom
A youth‑centered program ensuring high school juniors and seniors facing financial hardship have equal access to prom celebrations, providing dresses, suits, tickets, and memorable support one student at a time.

Seasons of Care
Year‑round holiday‑focused outreach: safe Halloween celebrations (Trunk or Treat), Thanksgiving meals and support (Oh Give Thanks), and winter holiday gifts, warm meals, clothing and essentials during the colder months to help families and children celebrate with dignity.

Show Me You Ball
An annual community event combining sport, fun, and purpose: basketball games + back-to-school support. Distributing backpacks, uniforms, shoes, and supplies to students in need while bringing the community together.

Show Me You Matter
A healing and awareness initiative addressing mental health and suicide prevention, especially for LGBTQ+ youth and other marginalized communities combining outreach, resources, and creative expression to foster resilience, belonging, and hope.

Show Me Your heART
An arts program that empowers youth and community members through creative expression offering workshops, art supplies, and safe spaces to explore visual art, storytelling, fashion, and self‑expression as paths to healing, identity, and community connection.
